Privacy Policy

Nightlore is a bedtime story app for parents. You hold the account; your child does not. We collect as little as possible, we keep your child’s name and your voice off the services that write and narrate the stories, and you can delete everything at any time. This policy explains exactly how that works, in plain language.

The account belongs to you, the parent or guardian. Your child has no account, no login, and no profile they control. Everything about your child lives inside your account, under your control.

We collect two kinds of things: what we need to sign you in, and what we need to tell a good story.

• Your account: your email address and password, handled by our authentication provider (Supabase). We use these only to sign you in and keep your family’s saga attached to you.
• About your child: a first name, a birth date, whether they are a boy or a girl, a few interests you choose, and the look you pick for their story hero (skin tone and hair). That is the whole profile. We use the birth date only to keep the stories tuned to your child’s age as they grow, so the saga ages up with them; the date itself stays with us, and only the age it implies is shared with the storytelling service. No address, no photo.
• The character recipe: the qualities you decide to nurture, for example brave, kind, or curious, and how much to emphasise each.
• Optional situation notes: on nights you choose, a short, parent-written note about what your child is facing, for example “nervous about the first day”. These are brief and low-sensitivity by design.
• Optional voice recording: if you record a short “name capsule” to narrate in your own voice, we store that recording in your private account.
• How the app is used: basic, non-advertising usage records, for example that a chapter was generated or finished, so we can keep the app working and improving. We do not build advertising profiles, and we never sell this.

Nightlore does not write or voice the stories itself. To create each chapter and its illustrations, we send a small set of details to Google’s Gemini, a generative AI service operated by Google. To read a chapter aloud, we send the words of the story, with your child’s name removed, to ElevenLabs, a voice service that records the narration. These are the only places your family’s information leaves our systems, and they are the reason this screen and your consent exist.

What we send Gemini: your child’s age (worked out from the birth date — the date itself is not sent), whether they are a boy or a girl, their interests, the look you chose for their hero and the pictures, the character recipe, the story so far, and any short situation note you added.

What we send ElevenLabs: the words of the story, with your child’s name removed, so it can record the narration in a warm storyteller’s voice. Nothing else.

We ask for your explicit permission before any of this is sent, the first time and again whenever these terms change. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings, and new chapters will pause until you grant it again.

Every family is treated the same. We apply the same protections and the same limits to every child’s information, without exception, regardless of who they are or where they live.

• Your child’s real name. Every story is written with a placeholder, and the real name is inserted on your device, at the moment you read. We do not send it to Gemini, to ElevenLabs, or to any other outside service.
• Your child’s birth date. We use it to work out an age, and only the age travels.
• Your voice. A recorded name capsule stays in your private storage and is stitched into the narration on your device. We do not send it to any outside service.
• Photos. Nightlore does not ask for or use photographs of your child.
• Your email or password. These are not part of any story or narration request.

• Situation notes are ephemeral. They are used for the next chapter and then expire automatically, within about two days.
• Your child’s saga (chapters, illustrations, the character recipe) is kept so the story can continue night after night, until you delete it or your account.
• A recorded voice capsule is kept until you remove it or delete your account.
• Basic usage records are kept in de-identified form to keep the app healthy.

• Consent: you decide whether Nightlore may create stories at all. Nothing is sent to the story or narration services until you agree.
• Withdraw consent: in Settings, under “Privacy and your family’s data”, at any time. New chapters pause and nothing new is sent.
• Delete your account: in the same place. This permanently removes your account, your child’s profile, every chapter of the saga, every illustration, and any voice recording. It cannot be undone.
• Get help: you can always reach us with a question or a request.

Your data is stored with our infrastructure provider (Supabase) and protected by per-account access rules, so one family can never see another’s saga. Story and narration requests are made over encrypted connections. No system is perfect, but we design so that the most personal parts, your child’s name and your voice, do not travel in the first place.

Nightlore is designed for a parent to use on behalf of a child. Children do not create accounts, do not sign in, and are not shown advertising or asked to make purchases. We collect only the minimal, low-sensitivity information above, and only what you choose to provide. If you believe we hold information about your child that you did not intend to share, contact us and we will remove it.

If we change what we collect or who we share it with, we will update this policy and ask for your consent again inside the app before the change takes effect.
